If you’re selling a home this year, it is crucial to know that the colors that you choose to decorate with have a direct impact on the psyche of your buyer. Some colors feel homier, others generate excitement, and still, others can have a negative effect. Choosing modern colors can help your home appear up-to-date. It can also help your potential buyer picture themselves living and making memories in your home. Luckily for you, this year’s palette is stunning. Inspired by colors found in nature, rich tones evoking deep emotions will be this year’s trend, it seems. Each category will offer shades from all over the color spectrum, so you’ve still got plenty of room to make your home exactly the way you want it. Read on as a Utah home staging expert shares what colors to decorate with in 2020:
Reds and oranges will likely be deep warm, earthy shades in 2020. The reds this year will have a burgundy or brown undertone. Imagine maroons and rusts, some terracotta and mango your space will hold an air of beauty and creativity. Think sunsets and sunrises! But, be careful; red in any shade can go from warm, welcoming, and even cheery to angry and frustrated if it is too much. A little goes a long way!
So far this year, mustard yellow has been the color! Everyone is craving the fun, cheerful energy of yellow. But, bright daffodil yellow may be too overwhelming for some people. Rich, jewel-toned, golden yellow, like marigold, is a bright energizing color with warm hues. This shade can create a refreshing space if used correctly. Experts show that the mustard yellow can be used on walls or as accent pieces with other colors.
Looking forward to 2020, greens continue showing some olive and hunter. Pantone declared coral to be the color of 2019, but in the end, a vibrant, dark green really seemed to take the lead, making it one of our favorite colors to decorate with in 2020. Everyone seemed to be decorating with plants, #greenery was trending, and everyone tried out their green thumbs. This year, olive green is a beautiful natural hue everyone will be looking to. It is an excellent color for both inside and out. If you enjoy earthy natural shades, olive green is one for you. While olive has a little more of a subtle yellow undertone, hunter green is darker, with more emphasis on a slightly blue undertone. Think Green Bay Packers green! Hunter green, with its saturated deep shade, brings sophistication to any space. Both are good options for decorating in 2020.
In 2020, we expect to see a shift away from the neutrals of previous years toward rich hues like hunter green (mentioned above) and navy. Both are a great way to create a calm and tranquil space. Navy blue or denim will be our timeless, classic, bold shades for blue; who doesn’t love them? Use navy with confidence in the master bedroom or the living room. This year, navy is the new grey. They will add to any space, a small throw pillow, or an accent wall; these deep vibrant blues can never go wrong.
Just because navy is the new grey in 2020, don’t count grey out of the picture! Grey is a great, calming neutral that pairs well with many of the vibrant colors we’ve already discussed. However, charcoal is expected to be the prominent grey color of 2020. If used alone, charcoal creates a cozy, intimate area. Pairing it with other grey hues also adds great depth and character to your space. You can’t go wrong decorating with grey in 2020. Everyone is looking for stability and comfort, think: rock.
Pink is definitely one of those colors that I’m not sure anyone expected to stick around for very long. Yet, here it is again as a color to decorate with in 2020! Although it’s been around for a few seasons, it continues to make a name for itself – as long as you choose your tone correctly. Champagne is a light and airy beige tone taking over for the neutral needs of the design. It is warm and inviting to create a calm, quiet haven. Light pink is a lovely friendly alternative when you don’t want to use white or beige. Try using pastel pink, dusky rose, and peach pink to create a delicate and elegant look this year.
Interestingly enough, pink also seems to be the same trend for bridal gowns this season! But, let’s try not to go all blush and bashful! Use pink boldly this year!
